Music, myth, and magic mix in this tale of a melody not meant for human ears, from the New York Times–bestselling and award-winning author of Darwin’s Radio.

Michael Perrin is an aspiring poet, struggling to express the chaotic cadences of his thoughts on paper. He finds a kindred spirit in Arno Waltiri, the film score composer behind several of Michael’s favorite classic movies. The maestro’s greatest piece, however, was performed in front of a live audience only once. The concerto Opus 45, Infinity left its listeners entranced, altered to the very core of their souls.

Waltiri’s composition is a song of power. Never meant to be heard by human ears, its melody is as captivating as a siren’s call; its notes ring out like a death knell; and its rhythms shake the very foundations of reality.

The music’s otherworldly tones have led Michael through the gate between Earth and the Realm of the Sidhedark, where faeries reign by rule of magic—and where Michael must find his muse if he’s ever to return home.

The Infinity Concerto is a fantasy masterpiece by the Hugo and Nebula Award–winning author of the Forerunner Saga, Eon, and other imaginative classics.

The Infinity Concerto Songs of Earth and Power Book 1 eBook Greg Bear

One of the best stories I've ever read. If memory serves, Greg Bear wrote this while in college. As great as he is - certainly one of the best Hard SF writers of our times - his later books rarely exceed this, along with the sequel (not as good), his only attempt at fantasy. The world he creates is amazing. So are the beings who occupy it. The story is fabulous. Sadly, the title has become hard to find. If you manage to get one, hang onto it. You'll re-read it again in several years. Guaranteed.

The Infinity Concerto Songs of Earth and Power Book 1 eBook Greg Bear Reviews

For anyone who likes their Celtic myths dark, cold and inhuman - this is the book for you. Fascinating read!
The book takes a long time to get going, or so it seems. The thing is that the long almost drudgery is necessary I think to get where it needs to go. It takes a long time because it needs to. But some things could be better. The fact that something is being set up is clear but as the end approaches a great deal seem to come to light that is not as well prepared as I would like. Michael the protagonist was only 16, but his wisdom and insight into other people's character is not sufficiently developed in the story. In fact we are led to believe that he's just a kid right up until the ending when we suddenly see a far more sophisticated person. It's not quite believable to me and I can't help but wonder if the next book reveals him as something more than we have yet seen. But I will read that next book very soon because I'm pretty well hooked.
I just retread this powerful little fantasy and was swept once again into a story that is brilliant in every way. Like his main characters, Greg Bear is himself a 'world-maker."
Greg Bear has written many classic SF novels (Eon, Eternity, BloodMusic) but this fantasy novel and its sequel, The Serpent Mage, are two of his most assured and inspired works.
I have been a Bear fan for quite some time. This book will keep you rvited to your seat. Without giving too many details, I was pulled into the Realm and stayed there until the last page.
Bear really knows how to paint a picture and keep you there.
More fantasy than sci fi but very good. I will read the follow up book Serpent Mage. Greg. Bear is very versatile.
Greg Bear is one of the most original speculative fiction writers out there. Oddly enough this book and it's companion "The Serpent Mage" may be one of his most traditional story lines. But he still brings all of his originality to this story and makes it all his own.
One of the best stories I've ever read. If memory serves, Greg Bear wrote this while in college.
